Introduction
On the evening of 31 Oct 2025, I had a detailed discussion at my residence with Mr. Asad Ullah, a dairy farmer from Rahim Yar Khan, currently operating an IT company in Dubai. He was accompanied by three colleagues. His family had earlier invested approximately PKR 50 million in establishing a dairy farm of Holstein Friesian cows. The farm operations were managed by his brother. However, due to a major family health crisis involving treatment of cancer for his sister-in-law, the family was compelled to sell their animals and halt dairy production.
Mr. Asad’s purpose of visit was to seek guidance regarding restoration and sustainable redevelopment of the farm. Dairy Science Park (DSP), as a mission-driven platform, is committed to supporting such individuals facing business and livelihood distress.
The dairy sector in Pakistan is a lifeline for millions of farming families, yet many are struggling due to rising feed prices, market instability, animal health challenges, and unforeseen family crises. As a result, valuable assets and livelihoods are being lost, leaving families under stress and national food security at risk. Dairy Science Park is committed to supporting such families with technical, financial, and organizational solutions under ethical and sustainable livestock entrepreneurship.
By strengthening dairy enterprises on Shari’ah-compliant profit-sharing models, we can restore farms, generate decent employment, and ensure a healthy supply of milk and meat to consumers. This effort requires collaboration among farmers, investors, academia, and government — a vision already embodied in the Triple Helix Model of Dairy Science Park.
Existing Farm Infrastructure
| Facility | Details |
|---|---|
| Total Farm Area | 2 Acres |
| Sheds | 2 functional livestock sheds + 1 shed needing concrete flooring |
| Staff Residences | 4 worker quarters + 3-room office block |
| Feed Infrastructure | 4 silage bunkers (20’ x 50’ x 4’ each) |
| Cold Chain | Milk chiller available |
| Additional Structures | 2 store rooms |
| Location | 15 km from Rahim Yar Khan city, 7 km from KLP Chowk Bahadarpur (road mostly good, last 200m needs improvement) |
The farm historically purchased maize fodder locally and prepared silage on-site. Commercial dairy feed (Golden Dairy Feeds / Panjnad Feed Mills) was used at PKR 3500–3700 per 37 kg bag, with acceptable performance outcomes.
Past Dairy Operations:
- Milk sold to Fatima Group, FFC / Fauji Foods, or directly at farm-gate
- Pricing ranged PKR 135–165 per kg
Farm Staffing (Earlier):
- 2 cleaners
- 2 feed handlers
- 2 milkers
- 1 Imam Masjid
- 1 Farm Manager
- Additional workers on daily wage when required
Farm Capacity: Approx. 300 head of adult livestock can be accommodated.
Proposed Revival Plan
To restore the farm on sustainable and profitable lines, Dairy Science Park recommends establishing a diversified livestock-based enterprise:
| Component | Proposed Herd Size |
|---|---|
| Dairy Herd (Milking Cows) | 100 cows |
| Calf Fattening Unit (Cattle/Buffaloes) | 100 animals |
| Goat/Small Ruminant Meat Unit | 100 meat-type goats |
This mixed dairy + beef + goat model reduces risk, improves cash flow, and supports both short-term and long-term revenue streams.
Financial Estimates
| Item | Year 1 (Establishment & Purchase) | Subsequent Years (Operational) |
|---|---|---|
| Total Cost | PKR 150 million | PKR 66 million annually |
| Expected Return | PKR 25 million | PKR 125 million annually |
| Net Profit (after Year 1) | — | PKR 59 million / year |
Investment Modality
The project will be offered to investors on a Profit & Loss Sharing basis, aligned with Shari’ah-compliant business ethics.
DSP will support:
- Technical supervision
- Livestock procurement guidance
- Feed and herd management protocols
- Farm business monitoring and reporting
- Market linkages for milk and meat
Conclusion
This case reflects the human and social dimension of the livestock sector—where livelihood works, family crises, and enterprise sustainability are intertwined. Dairy Science Park remains committed to restoring productive assets, supporting struggling farmers, and establishing ethical and sustainable livestock businesses under the Triple Helix Model of Good Governance (Academia–Industry–Government).
May Allah accept this effort as service to His creation.
Ameen.
