National Eco-Security System Pakistan (NESS-Pak) was represented at the 1ST INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE (IRAD-2023), RECENT TRENDS IN IMPROVING RESISTANCE AGAINST DISEASES USING MOLECULAR GENETICS AND OMICS TOOLS held on December 6-7, 2023 at ABDUL WALI KHAN UNIVERSITY MARDAN, PAKISTAN. Prof Dr Muhammad Subhan Qureshi, President NESS-Pak presented his paper on titled “Integrated approach for maintaining eco-security in Pakistan under NESS-PAK” and Mr Tian Dexin, Founder and Chief Scientist NESS International Science Network, Beijing made a presentation on “Jointly build an assured future of Eco-Security system for all children”.
The Conference objectives were introduced by Chief Organizer and Focal Person, Dr. Tahir Usman followed by the address of the Conference Chair, Prof. Dr. Sher Bahadar and the Patron, Prof. Dr. Sultan Ayaz. Welcome address was shared by the Vice Chancellor Prof Zahoor-Ul-Haq (TI).
Experts from China, USA, Thailand, Turkey and Afghanistan are taking part in the conference besides national experts. Second day of International One Health Conference organized by College of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry, AWKUM. The theme of the conference was “Recent trends in improving resistance against diseases using Genetics and Omics tools”. The conference was approved and supported by Prof. Dr. Zahoor Ul Haq, Worthy Vice Chancellor, AWKUM. About 150 abstracts were received from national and international experts including China, USA, Russia, Iran, Thailand, Switzerland. Chief guest was Prof Dr Shahid Baig, chairman, PSF and guest of honor was Prof. Dr. Zabita Khan, Shinwari. They appreciated the theme and quality of presentations delivered by different speakers. Chairman PSF appreciated and applauded the recent ranking of AWKUM published by Times Higher education. He was welcomed to support further projects from AWKUM and support such types of conferences and workshops in the future. At the end shields and certificates were distributed among the organizers and participants.
Presentations on National Eco-Security Systems
Dr Yan Xie informed the house about the First NESS International Science Congress (2022) and Workshop on An Eco-Security System for All People, jointly launched the “One Target · An Eco-Security System for All People (Haikou Initiative). The 2023 Congress aims to further advance the research and development of the “National Eco-Security System (NESS)” in all countries and provide more effective support and services for international collaborative efforts to build “An Eco-Security System for All People”.
The 2023 NESS Congress included opening ceremonies, the main congress, and five international sub-forums, with participation from 129 countries. Among the participants, 39 countries attended the event in person, 44 countries participated online, and 46 countries engaged in communication via email. So far, NESS International Contact Persons have been identified for 40 of these countries, including Prof M S Qureshi from Pakistan.
Prof Amanullah, Member NESS-Pak presented a paper on “Enhancing Public Health through Modern Agronomy: Sustainable and Nutrient-Rich Practices”. The synergy between contemporary agronomy concepts and their impact on public health through sustainable and nutrient-rich agricultural practices was examined. A range of innovative approaches like Precision Agriculture, Sustainable Farming, Efficient Nutrient Management, Crop Diversity, Biofortification, Climate-Resilient Farming, Vertical Farming; Urban Agriculture, Digital Agriculture, and Agroecology were reviewed.
Prof Qureshi informed the IRAD 2023 participants about the challenges to the eco-security. Six of the nine planetary boundaries are transgressed up to 2023. A 36 members Preparatory Committee has been constituted for implementation of the agenda of NESS-Pak with representation from the academia, government and private sector. NESS-Pak will adopt a coordinated approach to respond to the challenges faced by the people of Pakistan through: i) Environment Security; ii) Biological Diversity; iii) Food Security; iv) Public Health Security; and v) Livelihood Security.
Recommendations on National Eco-Security Systems
In the Concluding Session, Recommendation of IRAD AWKUM Conference on Eco-Security were presented as follows:

- National Research Center for National Eco-Security System Pakistan (NRC-NESS-Pak) will be established at AWKUM Mardan.
- IRAD AWKUM Conference papers will be shared with NESS for their international database.
- The 2024 International NESS Conference will be held at AWKUM in cooperation with NESS-ISN Beijing.
- The Preparatory Committee NESS-Pak will hold National Workshops in coordination with HEC/PSF and other sponsors for issues identification and strategy development to respond to the issues.
