Calf Fattening has been launched by several farmers in Peshawar and the surrounding areas. However sale of these specially prepared Beef Animals has been a challenge because the price of culled cattle and buffaloes and the sick Animals getting prolonged treatment, are available at much lower prices. These animals are called “Qasabi”. Furthermore the district administration fixes a flat rate for beef, irrespective of Quality.
The Factory has been established at 120-Industrial Estate Hayatabad. Specially reared healthy male cattle up to the age of 2 years are purchased, slaughtered at Export Section of Slaughter House of Munir and Co, processed at Peshawar Meat Factory and packed in a sealed food grade polythene bag with production date.
Calf Fattening Farms were invited to get registered for supply of animals. Beef consumers were provided the products at Times Pharmacy Spogmay Plaza, SMart University Campus and Ben Dawood Phase III.
However, lack of availability of quality animals at appropriate age, competition of culled buffaloes with the prime meat produced by the factory and unfriendly attitude of the superstores managers forced DSPI to close the operation.
